Almost Famous…just for two hours

Some days I am sick of being a “grown up”.

Some days I just don’t want to think about the wars in the world and the routines and responsibilities of my everyday life.

On those days I listen to Simon and Garfunkel, or Led Zeppelin…some days it’s Sabbath or The Ramones and I remember how it used to feel before all of this “adulthood”. Before all of the pressure. The release is phenomenal, if only for three minutes.

On really decadent days, like today; I watch the film Almost Famous. That film depicts my early years like I couldn’t hope to myself. It speaks to a small section of my generation that hung out and lived loud. The days when the best item of clothing to complement my shabby leather jacket was a tiny leopard print bikini and a Drummer/Vocalist/Guitarist from a band draped around my shoulders.

And today I am hanging out with my two smallest groupies of my own; the house looks like shit and I am watching it.

Live on Rock and Roll.

  1. I wish my early years were like Almost Famous…they were a little bit more like The Goonies; without the adventure, pirates and gadgets (sigh)! Although mum is a little bit like Frances McDormand…

  2. Frances McDormand in A.F was the best! You’re a lucky man, Mrs Dr Ben is clearly as cool as I had previously assumes her to be…and the Goonies rocked - you just can’t remember the pirates and adventures because you have left Neverland. I bet there were some really!
